The Star Wars franchise has some of the best and most controversial of all time. The late 90’s and 2000’s were the greatest years for these games, and Lucasarts had a field-day making them. From conquering the Galaxy, to interesting and unique stories, here are our top five Star Wars games.
Star Wars: Empire At War
Empire At War is a Star Wars real time strategy game made in 2007. Despite being glitchy in places, it gives the real galactic sense of playing an Admiral in either the Rebellion or Empire’s militaries, or if you really wanted – a crime lord whose investments cripple the two biggest powers.
We love it for the mods that the community built onto it, making the base game hugely more playable and making the best Star Wars conquest-style game yet.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is a guilty-pleasure for most fans of the series. It’s a serious hack-and-slash style game where you electrocute, force choke and slice n’ dice soldiers on both sides of the Galactic Civil war as Darth Vader’s secret apprentice ‘Starkiller’, voiced by Star Wars fan favourite Sam Witwer.
Let your inner child consume you and experience the full power of the Dark Side of the force, as you unleash your rage on the galaxy, and change the fate of the original trilogy forever.
Star Wars: Republic Commando
Republic Commando was proof that Lucasarts could create something meaningful from the prequel trilogy. Cast as a squad of Arc Troopers set in the Clone Wars, you take on missions as a squad with a system that lets you give orders and context-sensitive commands.
Without a Jedi, this became a run-and-gun shooter that let Star Wars games embrace a grittier ground-level feel, with some inspired modular weapons to boot.
Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2005)
The sequel to an already authentic Star Wars experience. Star Wars: Battlefront 2 was the shooter that let you play as Jedi or Sith, play a campaign and introduced epic planetary battlegrounds and introduce breathtaking space combat.
It became an epic memory and when it was the last in the series, people mourned for it. It was so popular, Electronic Arts decided to reboot the Battlefront series with some interesting strategies – and many more controversies.
Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic
Heralded as one of the best RPG experiences ever created, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic takes place in old legends canon, where you create a character and explore the time thousands of years before anything else we knew. You got to choose dialogue and affect how the game played out.
This game has some of the most beloved Star Wars characters ever created, from Revan and Bastilla Shan, to a psychotic assassin droid, HK-47, and created a second era of Star Wars that everyone loved and wanted more of.
